Wedding Reception Venue Birmingham

Small Weddings and Evening Parties at Siamais

Siamais is a wedding reception venue Birmingham couples book for the meal and the party, not the ceremony. The Thai restaurant and cocktail bar in Brindleyplace seats 120 or holds 150 standing, with exclusive hire from £2,000. It is not licensed for ceremonies, so you marry elsewhere in the city and celebrate here.

What Siamais is, and is not, for a wedding

Siamais is a restaurant and cocktail bar that hosts wedding receptions and evening parties. It is not a licensed ceremony venue, and you cannot legally marry here. We put that first because a lot of wedding venue searches assume both halves happen in one place, and it would waste your time to find out later.

What you get is the celebration half, done by people who serve food and drink for a living. The whole venue can be yours, with 120 guests seated for a wedding meal or 150 standing for an evening party. There is a working kitchen, a full cocktail bar and heated, covered terraces already in place. Weddings are among the events Siamais hosts, alongside engagement parties, anniversaries and christenings. For couples who find the barn and marquee circuit is more production than they want, a restaurant reception is a simpler and often cheaper answer.

After a city centre ceremony

The most common plan is a civil ceremony in town followed by a reception at Siamais. Birmingham Register Office is at Holliday Wharf on Holliday Street, close to The Mailbox, and The Mailbox is about a 10 minute walk from Siamais. On a dry day, a wedding party can stroll over by way of the canal and Brindleyplace. Otherwise it is a very short taxi ride. Check ceremony times and booking directly with the Register Office, as we have no connection to it.

Couples marrying at a church, temple, mosque or other venue elsewhere in the city use Siamais the same way. Guests travelling on afterwards can park at Q-Park Brindleyplace, take the tram to the Brindleyplace or Library stops, or be dropped on Oozells Street. If there is a gap between the ceremony and the meal, the large bar space means early arrivals have somewhere comfortable to wait with a drink.

A wedding reception venue Birmingham couples can fill with 40 or 120

Small weddings are where Siamais fits best. A guest list of 50 or 60 does not look lost here the way it can in a hotel ballroom, and the restaurant layout means you sit at restaurant tables on velvet chairs, where a hotel would wheel in banqueting furniture. At the top end, 120 is the seated limit and 150 the standing limit, and we will not stretch either.

Some couples use the two capacities in sequence, with a seated meal for the day guests and a standing party once the evening guests arrive. If that is your plan, tell us both numbers when you enquire so the floor can be planned around the changeover. For very small weddings, a dozen people after a quiet ceremony for example, you may not need exclusive hire at all. A gold birdcage booth or a sectioned area with a set menu can be booked like any group table, though you will share the restaurant with other diners.

The wedding meal: three courses, buffet or canapés

Catering comes in three formats, and they can be combined across a day. A sit-down three course meal suits the main wedding breakfast. A buffet works well for evening food. Canapés cover the drinks reception while photos are being taken. Bespoke menus are available, so if there is a dish you both love, ask for it.

As a price guide, the published banqueting menus are £41.95pp for the vegan Grounded in Siam, £44.95pp for Taste of Siam and £49.95pp for The Siam Feast, which can take a lobster middle course for an extra £9.50pp. Wedding guest lists span generations and faiths, and the kitchen is set up for that. Chicken and lamb are halal. The vegan menu is a complete meal, with dishes such as sweetcorn cakes and vegetable massaman curry. Gluten free options are marked, and allergies are handled when you give the team a list ahead of the day.

Toasts, cocktails and the evening party

For the toasts, the list includes Di Maria sparkling wine and champagne from Telmont, Laurent Perrier, Bollinger and Dom Perignon. For everything after, there is a cocktail bar with 20 signatures and 14 classics at £11.50 to £13.25. The 1941, with lychee liqueur, elderflower liqueur and apple, is the house drink. Ask the bar about a cocktail created for your day. The team already designs branded cocktails for company events, so the skills are there.

All drinks bought from the bar count towards your minimum spend. Because Siamais is a licensed bar in its own right, the party does not have to relocate once the meal is over. Regular hours run until midnight on Fridays and 1am on Saturdays, and the timings for your hire are agreed in your quote. Weekend music in the venue is soulful house, deep house, remixes and dance classics, and entertainers can be booked through the venue.

Styling, photography and entertainment

Siamais works with trusted photographers, venue decorators and entertainers, and can arrange them as part of your reception. You are free to keep it minimal. The room has teal velvet booths, gold birdcage booths, hanging birdcages and lanterns and a hexagonal tiled floor, so a few flowers and table names are often enough. Couples who want more, a floral arch, a sign, a full table scheme, can brief the decorators through the venue.

For photographs, the interior gives you strong colour, there is plenty of natural light in the daytime, and the canal towpath and Brindleyplace are a short walk away for couple portraits. Use the 3D virtual tour to plan where the top table, the cake and any entertainment would go, then check it in person. The events brochure PDF is useful for sharing with parents or anyone else contributing to the cost.

Costs, deposit and guest practicalities

Exclusive hire starts from £2,000, varies by day and time, and works as a minimum spend that your food and drink counts towards. A 50% non-refundable deposit secures the date and comes off the final bill. Compared with a dry-hire venue, there is no separate caterer, bar company or furniture hire to budget for.

Two policies affect wedding guest lists. Friday to Sunday is over 18s only, and from Monday to Thursday under 18s must leave by 8pm. If children are part of your day, talk to the team before you set a date, because a weekend reception with flower girls and page boys will not work under the standard policy. The venue has disabled access and facilities and no cloakroom. To enquire, send the form with your date and numbers, call 0121 643 3993 or email birmingham@siamais.co.uk. The same team handles engagement parties and pre-wedding family dinners.

Good to know

Questions people ask

Can we get married at Siamais?

No. Siamais is not a licensed ceremony venue, so the legal ceremony has to take place elsewhere. It hosts wedding receptions, wedding meals and evening parties, with exclusive hire for up to 120 guests seated or 150 standing.

How much does a wedding reception at Siamais cost?

Exclusive hire starts from £2,000 and varies with the day and time. It works as a minimum spend, and all food and drink from Siamais counts towards it. As a guide, three course banqueting menus cost £41.95 to £49.95 per person. A 50% non-refundable deposit secures the date.

Is Siamais suitable for a small wedding?

Yes. Small weddings suit the venue well. A guest list well below the 120 seated limit still suits the room, and very small parties can book a semi-private birdcage booth or sectioned area without exclusive hire, sharing the restaurant with other diners.

How close is Siamais to Birmingham Register Office?

Birmingham Register Office is at Holliday Wharf on Holliday Street, close to The Mailbox. The Mailbox is about a 10 minute walk from Siamais, so the journey is a short walk or a very short taxi ride across the canal side of the city centre.

Can children attend a wedding reception at Siamais?

The standard policy is over 18s only from Friday to Sunday, and under 18s leave by 8pm from Monday to Thursday. If children are part of your wedding, speak to the team before choosing a date so you know exactly what is possible.

Can you cater for halal, vegan and gluten free wedding guests?

Yes. Chicken and lamb dishes are halal, there is a complete vegan and vegetarian three course menu, and gluten free options are marked on the set menus. Send the team a list of dietary needs and allergies before the day.

Do you provide decorations and a photographer?

Either. Decorators, photographers and entertainers can be booked through the venue, or you can keep styling light, because the room already has teal velvet seating, gold birdcage booths and hanging lanterns.
