Two nights out under one roof

The name Siamais comes from Siamese twins, meaning two, and the idea behind the venue is two nights out under one roof. One half is a Thai restaurant. The other is a full cocktail bar with a long back-lit bar counter and a large bar space where people can stand, mix and order without sitting down to eat. For a party, that split is the useful part. There is no separate function room to be shut away in. You get the restaurant and the bar themselves.

It means you can hold a drinks reception at the bar, move guests to tables for dinner, then drift back to the bar afterwards, all without leaving the building or booking a second venue. With the whole place hired, capacity is 120 seated or 150 standing, and the cocktail bar is your private bar for the session. Each heated, covered terrace gives smokers and fresh-air seekers somewhere to go in any month, and the room gets plenty of natural light for daytime events such as christenings and anniversary lunches.

A party venue in Birmingham city centre for birthdays, milestones and work dos

Birthday parties are a regular booking here, and a milestone birthday, a 40th or a 50th with everyone invited, is where whole-venue hire starts to make sense. The same goes for an engagement celebration or an anniversary with a long guest list. A smaller gathering does not need the building: a gold birdcage booth or a section of the restaurant does the job for less.

Companies book the event space for corporate events too, mostly team parties and client evenings. If you are comparing private party venues, the question to ask each one is what the hire fee includes. Here the minimum spend is your food and drink, and the kitchen can cater for halal, vegan and allergy requirements.

How party venue hire Birmingham pricing works at Siamais

Whole-venue hire starts from £2,000. That is the floor, and the real figure depends on the day and the time you want. As a rule, a midweek date or a daytime slot is easier on the budget than a Saturday night. We quote each enquiry individually once we know the date and headcount.

Every private hire carries a minimum spend, and everything Siamais supplies counts towards it: canapés, the buffet, the sit-down dinner, cocktails, wine, soft drinks. You are not paying for an empty room and then paying again to fill it with food. To hold the date we take a 50% deposit, which is non-refundable and comes off your final bill on the day. Half is paid up front and the balance is settled at the event.

Canapés, a buffet or a three course Thai dinner

There are three catering formats, and the right one depends on how you want people to behave. Canapés suit a standing party where conversation and the bar are the point. A buffet works for a mixed crowd who will eat at different times. A sit-down three course meal is the choice when the evening has speeches or a guest of honour.

The kitchen is the same one that serves the restaurant's 82 dish a la carte menu, so party food here means satay, golden bags, spring rolls, green and massaman curries, Pad Thai and the rest of the Thai repertoire. Bespoke menus can be written around your group. For a reference point on seated dinners, the published banqueting menus are £41.95pp for the vegan Grounded in Siam, £44.95pp for Taste of Siam and £49.95pp for The Siam Feast. Chicken and lamb are halal, and allergies are handled in advance.

A bar with 20 signature cocktails

Most hired venues give you a function bar. Siamais gives you its actual cocktail bar, with the same list the public orders from. Book of Siam runs to 20 signatures, among them the Spiced Monsoon with three rums, melon and orange, the Lychee Margarita with a raspberry sugar rim, and Dragon's Embrace with rum, falernum and dragonfruit. The house signature 1941 mixes lychee liqueur, elderflower liqueur and apple.

There are 14 classics, from a Pornstar Martini to a Smoked Old Fashioned, plus a spritz list, wine, champagne, draught and bottled beer. Cocktails cost £11.50 to £13.25. Bang Pai Falls, the £25 sharing cocktail, arrives with fire and smoke, which tends to get phones out. For guests who do not drink, the eight Koh Mak mocktails are £7.95 each, so nobody is left holding a lemonade all night.

Photographers, decorators and entertainers

Siamais works with a network of trusted photographers, venue decorators and entertainers, so you can book the party as one package instead of chasing four suppliers yourself. Tell us what you have in mind, a balloon installation, a photographer for the first two hours, a performer, and we will bring in people the venue already works with.

The room needs less dressing than most. Teal velvet chairs and booths, gold birdcage booths, hanging birdcages and lanterns and a hexagonal tiled floor give it a look of its own, a through the looking glass take on old Siam. On music, the house style is chilled during the week and soulful house, deep house, remixes and dance classics at weekends. If you want something different for an exclusive hire, raise it when you enquire so it can be agreed before the deposit is paid.

House rules worth knowing before you send invitations

A few policies affect guest lists, so check them before you invite anyone. From Friday to Sunday, Siamais is over 18s only. From Monday to Thursday, under 18s are welcome until 8pm. Family events with children, such as christenings, therefore belong on a weekday and in the daytime. The venue operates Challenge 25, so younger-looking guests should bring photo ID.

The dress code is smart casual. Sportswear is not allowed, though smart trainers are fine. There is no cloakroom, which matters for a winter party of 100 people with coats. Disabled access and facilities are in place. Siamais is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Normal opening hours run to 11pm Sunday to Thursday, midnight on Friday and 1am on Saturday, and the hours for a private hire are agreed with your quote.

Questions people ask

How many guests can Siamais hold for a party?

Siamais holds up to 120 guests seated or 150 standing when the whole venue is hired. Smaller parties can use the semi-private gold birdcage booths or a sectioned area without hiring the whole venue.

How much does it cost to hire Siamais for a party?

Whole-venue hire starts from £2,000 and varies with the day and time. A minimum spend applies to every private hire, and all food and drink supplied by Siamais counts towards it. Send your date and guest numbers for an exact quote.

What deposit do you take for private hire?

A 50% deposit confirms a private hire. It is non-refundable and is deducted from your bill on the day of the event, so it goes towards what your guests eat and drink.

What events can I hold at Siamais?

Siamais hosts birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, christenings, engagement parties, corporate functions, Christmas parties and charity events. Friday to Sunday is over 18s only, so events with children need a Monday to Thursday date, with under 18s leaving by 8pm.

Is Siamais a good venue for a small party in Birmingham?

Yes, as long as you are happy with semi-private. Small parties take a gold birdcage booth or a sectioned area and order from a set menu or the main menu. Whole-venue hire, and the minimum spend that comes with it, is only worth it when you want the place to yourselves.

Can you arrange a photographer or decorations?

Yes. Siamais works with trusted photographers, venue decorators and entertainers and can arrange them as part of your booking. Tell the team what you want when you enquire so suppliers can be lined up for your date.

Can I see the venue before booking?

Yes. There is a 3D virtual tour of the restaurant, bar and terraces on the website, and an events brochure you can download as a PDF. You are also welcome to visit during opening hours, from 12pm every day.
