Small party venue Birmingham prices: the per-head numbers

People searching for small party venue prices usually want one number, so here are three. The banqueting set menus at Siamais cost £41.95, £44.95 and £49.95 per person, each for three courses. For a group of 20 on the middle menu, Taste of Siam, the food comes to £899 before drinks. For 12 people on The Siam Feast it is £599.40.

That per-head structure is what makes a restaurant cheaper than a hired room for small groups. There is nothing to pay for the space itself on a normal group booking, and you are not bringing in outside caterers, a bar or furniture. Your costs are food, drinks and whatever extras you choose. If you want exclusive use of the venue, the pricing changes to a minimum spend, which is explained below. For most parties under 40, a group booking is the better value route.

Minimum spend explained, without the jargon

A minimum spend is a promise that your event will put a certain amount through the till. It is not a fee on top of your bill. If the minimum is £2,000 and your guests eat and drink £2,300 worth, you pay £2,300. If they only reach £1,700, you pay £2,000.

At Siamais a minimum spend applies to every private hire, and all food and drink supplied by the restaurant counts towards it. Whole-venue hire starts from £2,000 and rises or falls with the day and time. A group of 15 will struggle to reach that on a Saturday night, which is why we point small parties towards booths and sectioned areas first. A group of 40 drinking cocktails and eating three courses can get close on a quieter day. We will tell you which side of the line your party falls on.

Where a group of 10 to 40 sits

The gold birdcage booths are the semi-private spots for smaller groups. Sitting in one gives your party its own defined space inside the restaurant, with the rest of the room as a backdrop. Larger small parties take a sectioned area, where tables are grouped so everyone is together. How many booths or which area you get depends on your numbers and the date, and the team confirms the layout before you pay a deposit.

You are still in a working restaurant and bar, with other guests in the building. For most birthdays, leaving dos and family get-togethers that is a plus, because the room has life in it from the moment you arrive. The setting is teal velvet seating, hanging birdcages and lanterns and a long back-lit bar. If your event needs speeches in silence or total privacy, you need exclusive hire.

What the set menus include

Every banqueting menu starts with prawn crackers, then a run of starters for the table, then mains with rice. Taste of Siam, £44.95pp, has Thai chilli chicken wings, prawn rolls, chicken satay, Thai fish cakes and spring rolls, followed by sweet and sour chicken, chicken red curry, beef in oyster sauce and lamb in chilli paste. The Siam Feast, £49.95pp, brings calamari, golden bags and tempura prawns, then green curry chicken, duck in tamarind sauce, lamb in chilli paste and chicken Pad Thai.

Grounded in Siam, £41.95pp, is vegetarian and vegan throughout: vegetable samosas, sweetcorn cakes, vegetable tempura, mango and papaya salad, vegetable massaman curry, vegetables in cashew nut, tofu in choo chee paste and Singapore noodles. Vegan guests get a full menu of their own here, not a side dish promoted to a main, so ask about running it alongside one of the other two for a mixed table. Gluten free options are marked, and chicken and lamb are halal.

Deposits for small groups

Two deposit rules exist, and which one you meet depends on how you book. A table booking carries a £5 per person deposit. For 20 guests that is £100, and it is taken off the bill on the day. A private hire carries a 50% deposit, which is non-refundable and also deducted from the final bill.

Most small parties fall under the first rule. If you ask for an area to be held exclusively for your group with a minimum spend attached, expect the second. We confirm which one applies before taking payment, so there is no surprise. One tip for organisers: collect money from your guests before you pay the deposit, not after. Organisers who front the cost for 25 friends tend to spend the following month chasing bank transfers.

Drinks on a small-party budget

Drinks are ordered from the normal bar list, so you can set the tone without committing to a package. Cocktails cost £11.50 to £13.25. The house signature is the 1941, with lychee liqueur, elderflower liqueur and apple, and the Watermelon Crush and Passion Pop are easy crowd choices. Mocktails are £7.95, bottled beers such as Singha, Chang and Tiger are £5, and the wine list includes a Rioja at £30 a bottle.

A simple way to control the budget is to buy a welcome drink for everyone and let guests buy their own after that. Another is to order a few bottles for the table with dinner. For a table of friends, the £25 Bang Pai Falls sharing cocktail, served with fire and smoke, gives you a moment for the cameras without ordering a round of 20. There are no discounted drinks slots, so budget on list prices.

Small venue hire Birmingham: when the whole place makes sense

Small venue hire in Birmingham usually means a function room above a pub or a side room in a hotel. Siamais is bigger than that, holding 120 seated or 150 standing, so exclusive hire suits a small party only in certain cases: a daytime or early-week event, a group with a generous drinks budget, or an occasion where privacy matters more than price. Exclusive hire also opens up canapés, buffets and bespoke menus, plus access to the photographers, decorators and entertainers the venue works with.

To check the space, take the 3D virtual tour or download the events brochure. To book, send the enquiry form with your date and numbers, call 0121 643 3993 or email birmingham@siamais.co.uk. Siamais is in Oozells Square, a few minutes from the Library and Brindleyplace tram stops and 3 minutes from the Broad Street buses, with parking at Q-Park Brindleyplace.

Questions people ask

How much does a small party at Siamais cost per person?

Food on the banqueting set menus costs £41.95, £44.95 or £49.95 per person for three courses. Drinks are extra, with cocktails from £11.50 to £13.25 and mocktails at £7.95. There is no charge for the space on a normal group booking.

Do I need to hire the whole venue for 20 people?

No. A group of 20 can book semi-private gold birdcage booths or a sectioned area as a group reservation. Whole-venue hire starts from £2,000 with a minimum spend, which is rarely the best value for a party that size.

What is a minimum spend?

A minimum spend is the least your event must spend on food and drink. It is not an extra fee. At Siamais it applies to private hires, and everything the restaurant supplies counts towards it. If your bill goes over the minimum, you simply pay the bill.

What deposit do you take for a small group?

Table bookings take £5 per person, deducted from the bill on the day. Private hires take a 50% non-refundable deposit, also deducted from the bill. The team confirms which applies to your booking before you pay.

Can vegan and meat-eating guests sit at the same table on set menus?

Grounded in Siam is a full vegetarian and vegan three course menu at £41.95pp, so vegan guests are not left with side dishes. Tell the team how many guests need it when you book and they will plan the table around it. Chicken and lamb dishes are halal.

Are children allowed at a small party?

Only Monday to Thursday, and under 18s must leave by 8pm. From Friday to Sunday Siamais is over 18s only. Plan family parties with children for a weekday lunch or early dinner.
